GT Bank Nigeria, formally the Guaranty Trust Bank PLC, is one of Nigeria’s best-known multinational financial institutions. Headquartered in Lagos and spearheaded by young Nigerian bankers, the bank has been operating since 1988. The Bank began its commercial operations in 1991 after being incorporated as a limited liability company.
It was in 2996 that the Guaranty Trust Bank PLC became a publicly quoted company and in 2002, the Bank received a universal banking license. The credit of introducing online banking and SMS banking in Nigeria besides different forms of cards also goes to the GT Bank Nigeria. The Guaranty Trust Bank PLC expanded its scale of operations in 2013 when it bought 70% shareholding in the Fina Bank Group followed soon by rebranding of the latter’s branches and subsidiaries to GT Bank.
